He doesn't have a big name now, but, he keeps popping up seemingly everywhere in tango music history - including as a member of Piazzolla's quinteto Nuevo Tango at the end of a long career of influence. Elvino was the main session man of his day on his instrument, but also lead with great success. A list of his orchestra associations tells the story:
In his late teens (born 1905) , he played with Juan Magio at Café Nacional; then with Roberto Firpo.
In 1925 he formed Orquesta Tipica Víctor, but also played with Luis Petrucelli and Juan Carlos Cobián. For three years, he played with Pedro Maffia.
From 1929 - 31, he had an on/off group with Osvaldo Pugliese named after themselves.
From 1933-37 he played the cafes and radio, recorded of course and toured. He gave Troilo his first job.
From 1939 he played on Radio Belgrano with Lucio Demare.
Elvino was featured violinist in the orchestras of: Ciraco Ortiz (1937); Osvaldo Fresedo (1942); Joaquín Do Reyos (various occasions); Carlos Di Sarli (1956); Fulvio Salamanca (1957); Pedro Maffi (1959); Formed Los Astros Del Tango with Francini (1957-60); Astor Piazzolla's Nuevo Tango (1955-61).
And there are others!
One of my most favourite tangos is his version of Ventarron (1933) with Orquesta Tipica Víctor. Here is my rendering.
He's playing on a truckload of famous tango recordings.
