"Bittersweet"

Author: Simona Gandrabur
Composer: Simona Gandrabur -
adaptation of the "Balada" by Ciprian Porumbescu (1853-1883)

Once, in the waking of spring
When the birds used to sing
Of our love sweet and true,

There, apple-blossoms above,
I first tasted the love
And that sweetness of you.

...

So many springs have passed
And the blossoms have died at last,
So much time since you've broken my heart
And torn those dreams of mine apart.

Now, in this mellow fall,
What are the things that I recall,
Is it all the bitterness that I felt
Or the way that I melt in your tender embrace?

Now, in this mellow fall,
What are the things that I recall?
Is it all the bitterness that I felt,
all the pain and the sadness
Or is it the tender and sweet happiness?

...

If you decide to return
You will find I still yearn
For that bitter-sweetness of you.
